Apple Bread

Bread Ingredients

  • 1 c Sugar
  • 1/2 c Shortening – I used Butter Flavored Crisco
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 t Vanilla
  • 2 T Sour Milk – A couple drops lemon juice or vinegar and milk to make 2 T
  • 1 t Baking Soda
  • 1/2 t Salt
  • 2 t Cinnamon
  • 2 c Flour
  • 2 c Apple – chopped – I used Granny Smith
  • 1/2 c Walnuts- chopped

Streusel Topping Ingredients

  • 2 T Flour
  • 2 T Sugar
  • 1 t Butter – softened
  • 1 t Cinnamon

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2/3 c Powder Sugar
  • 1/2 t Cinnamon
  • 1 T Milk – may need a few extra drops for desired consistency

Assemble

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Bread – Mix in a stand mixer or by hand in the order listed. With mixer on low, add each ingredient until incorporated. Place in 4 mini loaf bread pan or regular bread loaf pan.
  • Streusel – in small bowl mix all ingredients and sprinkle on top of bread batter.
  • Bake for 40 – 45 minutes until toothpick comes out clean – 4 mini loaves. A large bread pan will need longer, approximately 60 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, let sit for 5 minutes, remove from pan and cool on cooling rack.
  • Glaze when cool by mixing glaze ingredients and drizzle over the breads.
